Workstation Advice

Hi,

 

I'm putting together a shopping list for my first build. It's taken a while to find components that I think will give me the best all round performance for AE, C4D, and Octane. I just wanted to ask you guys to take a look over some of the specs from an AE perspective. Cheers.

 

Motherboard: ASUS X99E-WS USB3.1

CPU: 2687Wv4
Cooler: Corsair H105RAM: 64Gb Crucial DDR4 2133 ECC
GPU: 2 x EVGA GTX 1080 (I know Octane isn't compatible yet, but I'm in a position to wait).


I initially wanted a dual socket board, but realistically I'm not going to be able to afford a second processor for the moment, but the single 2687Wv4 looks like the best for what I can afford to invest.

 

Any thoughts welcomed.

Hi! I bought a project with a lot of scenes but I don't know how set transparency in compositions. There is the option to change background color in Fx controls but not to set transparent bg.

Issue with stroke reveal function on cursive fonts

I am attempting a simple handwriting reveal  by using the stroke effect and the bezier tool.

 

Because the font overlaps itself, the mask blocks portions of the animation. In the guides on Adobe.com there is a mention of adjusting the composition settings to adjust this (I see this option in videos from older AE versions), but I cant find this in AE CC:

"...choose Above Previous In Same Group for the Composite property for the fill or stroke in the Timeline panel."

 

Can anyone assist in how to correct this?

Rendering does not utilize GPU

Hi,

when pre-rendering my composition, the GPU is not utilized at all.

The CPU is running on 50%, and the RAM is being utilized by 11 of 16GB. The Disk is running at 5% of it's speed. However, the displayed framerate is at 9fps in the preview mode.

 

In preferences I've enabled mercury transmit and I've set the Ray-tracing to GPU with the following settings.

 

Fast Draft:Available
Texture Memory:4000.00 MB
Ray-tracing:GPU (unsupported)

Unsupported GPU enabled for CUDA acceleration

OpenGL

Vendor:NVIDIA Corporation
Device:GeForce GTX 980 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
Version:2.1.2 NVIDIA 358.50
Total Memory:5.91 GB
Shader Model:4.0 or later

CUDA

Any ideas how to utilize the GPU in After Effects? I'd like to achieve a faster rendering.

Audio Spectrum > create flat bars?

Hello all,

 

My first post here and i'm sure it will be the first of many.

I need to produce a very simple effect, but the Audio Spectrum effect seems to only produce audio bars with rounded edges.

 

I have attached 2 images for reference

1. is the result I currently have

After Effects quiting unexpectedly

Hey guys I just got after effects 13.7.2 for the first time, installed it. Every time I try to open it a window pops up and says it quit unexpectedly. I have restarted and uninstalled it. After reinstalling it's still doing the same thing. Any ideas?

I'm getting the build-bug now that the new Nvidia cards are coming out.  I would prefer to hold off for as long as i can and let prices naturally come down, but recently (even using Premiere Elements 12) I am having perfoirmance issues.  I've recently started playing with AE CC and saying it is slow is an understatement.  Is it time to upgrade or is there anyway to improve and save my current rig.  I'm not a gamer and honestly I'm still using Photoshop CS3 because CC is super slow as well.  Any suggestions welcome and thanks in advance...

Cannot Get Any Version of After Effects to Startup Without Crashing

So far I have tried After Effects CS6, After Effects CC 2015, After Effects CC 2014.

 

Currently have After Effects CC 2014, would like to start with getting this version working (this is also completely up to date, every version I tried was completely up to date).

 

Specs:

 

Intel Core i7-2600k

16GB 2133 Memory

NVIDIA GTX 780

Photoshop being installed on 240GB SSD

Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

 

What I have tried:

 

Updating to the newest NVIDIA driver, updating the newest Intel driver, reinstalling (here I tried multiple versions). Tried running in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7, tried running as Administrator.

 

What Happens when it Loads.

 

The majority of the time it just crashes and says "After Effects has stopped working"

 

The rest of the time it says After Effects warning: Invalid type conversion. After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last Logged message was: <6008> <ae.blitpipe> <2> Making New Context

Can't Render in queue. AE crashes

Hey,

 

I have a really urgent question. I'm currently working on a project with a tight deadline and AE crashes all the time when I set up a renderqueue with more than one Item. AE started the next item in queue but freezes at frame 0 while rendering.

Then I kill AE, restart it and I reconnect with my Adobe ID...

Why do I have to reconnect with my Adobe ID when AE crashes like this?

 

Also, after every render. AE throws an error that it failed to write XMP data. Does this information help?

If I wait while the freezed render is starting I get an Message after 5 minutes that AE couldn't connect to the BG renderer.

This also happens if I render one item after another...

 

(then I tried to render with Media Encoder, but this little ****** doesn't render the motion blur on one layer because the layers collapse transformation switch is on - anyway, this is a different story - but the collapse layer transformation has so many bugs in it when it comes to 3d layers)

 

Really, this drives me crazy

I'm currently working with cc14. Does an upgrade help? Or do I get more Problems with that buggy software. I always was afraid of an update to cc15 because of all the bugs people mention...

Precomped Vector Graphics (from Illustrator) appearing in different position when pre comped and camera movement is applied.

Layers appearing in different position when pre comped and camera movement is applied.

 

Can anyone tell me why some of my vector graphics are flickering around the screen? In a precomp the animation is working perfectly, but in the main comp (wherein that precomp exists) I have cameras panning around the graphic, and not all the vector layers are responding to the camera properly.

Video won't appear in composition

My Dynamic Link Premiere file will transfer to AE, but when I drag it to the AE timeline/composition, nothing shows up. The timecode accurately changed to the file time and I get a green render bar above the timeline, but no visible file or layer. The DL file has a thumb nail image, but only shows a black box when I view the source. After I create a composition with the trouble DL file, I'm unable to drag it anywhere again - getting the Ø symbol.


I've been doing this for years and never had a problem until now. I've had no issues with the same files just a few weeks ago and nothing has changed regarding hardware and software. I later tried to update both programs and that didn't work.

 

I have no workflow issues with other projects using the same methods. For some reason, AE decided it hates this one Premiere file. I tried renaming the PP project and importing other scenes but the same thing happens. The PP scene hasn't been used in DL previously, yet it still won't show up in any AE project I create.

I've been searching forums for a week and I'm stumped! I'd really appreciate some help on this one!

Hello. Where do people find slideshow templates that can be used to create a slideshow in After Effects CC?

 

I know of videohive / pond5 websites. Are there any other good ones? I have also found some free templates on youtube. I should probably anti-virus check anything I download from online though.

After Effects Preview Issues

I am using the most current edition of After Effects on an i5 Macbook Pro. When I attempt to preview a (very small) project, only ~1 second is played. The current settings are default, and the memory details are as follows:

Swapping to PC... advice on a pre-built gtx1080 system like this?

I'm currently using a 2012 MBP and am making the jump to a desktop PC this month... just want some more experienced thoughts...

What do you think of a pre-built gaming system such as this (with the new gtx1080 card) for daily After Effects and Premiere Pro work?

PCCG Assassin 1080 Gaming System [PCCG-ASSASSIN1080] : PC Case Gear

(The one thing I would like to change is the RAM (from 16GB to 32GB) but I'm not even sure if this is possible as I'm still learning what's compatible with what atm)

 

Another local place gave me a quote for a similar system using an i7 6700K, 980Ti, cheaper motherboard, 32GB, 950W power... but it's almost $1000 more... and I'm just not sure if I'm missing something else with that price difference?

Is this possible in AE animate with settings onion skin for frame to frame animation?

I m an animatior. And I would like to animate in AE with onion skin settings to do frame by frame animation. At this moment I do sketch animation in Adobe Flash, than import swf in AE, and than secondly drew shapes frame by frame. I know there are the plugin Paint & Stick, which open bigger possibilities for animation and motion design. Is it possible to support this plugin for membersips of CC?
