I'm using Windows. After the new update, when I go to click on the icon for an old After Effects file, it won't open. It give me the 'open with' options, but when I navigate to where the new version of AE is, it still won't open. I can open a file by first opening After Effects, and then opening the file from there, but if AE isn't open, it won't let me open specific files. This is true for old files, or new ones that I save.

Can't save project ( 23 :: 35 )
I have a project and since opening and converting to the new version I cannot resave it.
After Effects error: bad tracked memory ID ( 23 :: 35 )
This is on top of the fact that I can no longer import pngs. Four days to a deadline this is a real emergency. Wondering wether the update hasn't gone so well or can I really not import png files any more???
Can anyone help? I'm thinking a quick fix will be to continue with the previous version until the project is done but not sure how to revert back to a previous version...

Willing to pay for a simple animated history timeline template for after effects.
I'm looking for an AE "history timeline" template for educational purposes. I tried making a project myself but I give up. I was inspired by Evan Abrams who put out this tutorial. After Effects Video Tutorial: 3D Timeline Animation - YouTube I tried and tried but can't make it work.
Need a simple 3d template that I can use over and over. I don't want slick corporate look. Linear. No bouncy bubbles, no waves, no gimmicks.
6,000 bc - 2020 . ticks for decades, centuries and mellenia. Ability to place at least 10 photos and comments in various places along the timeline. If there is someone who either can do it or could point me in the correct direction I would appreciate it. I have no idea what I'm doing obviously. I live in dayton ohio and would be willing to drive, find a napkin, and draw it out for you if necessary.:)
No idea what this should cost. I may be in way over my head here.

Vorher lief alles ohne Probleme. Photoshop und InDesign und Illustrator habe ich mit Umbennen der LavasoftTcpService64.dll in oldLavasoftTcpService64.dll wieder zum Laufen gebracht.

Hello. Where do people find slideshow templates that can be used to create a slideshow in After Effects CC?
I know of videohive / pond5 websites. Are there any other good ones? I have also found some free templates on youtube. I should probably anti-virus check anything I download from online though.

Hardware accelerated views have been disabled because they are not compatible with remote desktop
Just started getting this error after updating to CC and latest NVIDIA drivers:
I don't run Remote Desktop. After this message appears, the checkbox in my preferences is disabled:
If I reboot my computer, the checkbox is again enabled, but then the error message about the remote Desktop appears, not right away, but after several minutes.
Details:
Windows 7 Pro
Intel i7 CPU X980 @ 3.3GHz
24GB RAM
GeForce GTX 680, Driver 320.49
AE CC 12.0.0.404

How do I replace footage in after effects from a template?
So I'm a beginner with after effects but purchased a template for after effects and I know how to switch the footage from what I read (click alt and dragging). However, every time I change them it shows on the bottom they switched but the actual preview of the video is still the original template.
Is there something I'm doing wrong with how I'm switching the footage?

Slow After Effects template playback on High End System
Hi Guys,
This is my first time using After Effects, I usually use Premier Pro without any issues.
I have purchased an AE template on Envato and i'm getting very sluggish playback on my Workstation PC. ideally I'd love to convert it to Premier Pro although I can't seem to find a way to convert it with assets.
My PC Specs:
Intel Core i7 3820 @ 3.6Ghz (2011/X79 Chipset Processor)
32GB 2400Mhz Trident-X RAM
Nvidia GTX670
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD
Windows 8.1 64-bit
I'm using the very latest release of After Effects CC 2014.

Animation Codec options changed in AE/Premiere 2015.3
Looks like the export options have changed for the Animation codec in the latest version.When exporting, one used to be able to have the quality level slider available.
These look to have disappeared in the latest version.
What gives?

After Effects Expression Errors
Hello - I am using After Effects version CS6
I am getting an error "After Effects warning: Unterminated string constant Expression disabled" each time I pick-whip one property to another. Like in the case of these two nulls created for "tracking" project when I pick-whip null's rotation on one null to another null's rotation. See image below:
The expression is
thisComp.layer("
Target").transform.rotation
Any help is much appreciated!!

IMac and After Effects CC2017
I'm looking to buy a new computer for professional work with After Effects. I'm leaning towards buying the fastest iMac. Any recommendations on what specifications I need to ad in to the base model? Any problems with working with AE on the iMac: Does it overheat with extensive AE work? Does the graphics card that comes in the iMac support GPU-accelerated effects in AE CC2017?

After Effects CC 2017 - Color Management (setting Working Space) Extreme Banding and Noise/Grain
We have been using a ARRI > DPX workflow where we need to use AE's color management. We set our working space to sRGB, and color depth to 32bit, so we can interpret the DPX plates (which are in log - this prepares us for a roundtrip back to log).
Upon first bring this setup into 2017, the color of both the footage and any effects was looking horribly noisy/grainy and banded. I figured this had to do with DPX or something, but I did some more testing.
It seems that simply setting the project working space to sRGB or Rec709 etc creates the banding/noise, no matter the color depth or what the source images/effects are.
Whats up with dis???
Also to note - the color seems to be ok on export, but its not viable to do work off of such reduced preview imagery.
For now we are rolling back to 2015.3

AE2017: looping playback beachball
With the new AE 2017, when I playback footage in the timeline with either Ram preview or spacebar, playback loops indefinitely with a spinning beachball.
It seems to be related to animated shape layers and imported vector assets (.ai and .psd)
I can scrub just fine, and rendering seems to work... but when I preview, it gets stuck in a loop, and force quit is necessary each time.
I've done the usual resetting prefs, restarting computer, trying various files.. etc. To no avail.
I'm on a late 2015 5k Imac, AMD Radeon 2048, running Sierra 10.12.1
Anyone else seeing this issue?

What is the best practice for animation
Hello,
I'm having trouble figuring out what the best practice is to animate the flow of dots on the graphic I attached.
I went the old school way and animated a single dot using position, then copied and pasted about 150 layers to get a flow going. Problem is, it won't loop correctly after my 30 seconds of time line expires, it starts with a single dot.
What's the best way to do this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is my example. I need to animate a continuous flow of dots around the red piping. Again, I did this with a single dot method but can I use masks? Paths? Can I bring all the dots in on one layer?

Are rendering frames this large disabled or something? Every time I try to render it fails... There is just some simple color corrections going on... 8bbc
