Just upgraded to cc 2017 and I was trying to recover the project files from a previous version, yet my sounds are not playing and I can't edit my audio hardware because AE keeps crashing. Any ideas what might be going wrong? Tried reinstalling and re downloading yet no results. I have no access to "preferences" in AE since it always crashes...

After Efects Error: overflow converting ratio denominators.(17 :;18)
Hello, I am experiencing a serious problem with after effects.
It started when I right clicked a clip in my premiere pro timeline and chose "replace with after effects composition." Upon moving the clip into my already open after effects project, the wrong still frame opened up in the comp viewer, followed by this error: After Effects Error: overflow converting ratio denominators.(17 :;18). Clicking OK does nothing, and even after closing after effects and restarting the computer, upon opening my project, I simply get this error which will not go away, and as long as it is open, I can do nothing else with after effects. I cannot just create a new project as several other comps are contained within this specific project, and because of this error I now have no access to them. What can I do to correct this?

How to make this scaling look right ..?
(UltraNoob here)
Basically, I need to make the scaling of this music staff look smooth/correct/natural etc..
Of note:
-the music staff is comprised of 5 separate pieces
-the 'beginning state' and 'ending state' of the music staff are proportionately different
-in terms of numbers: the treble clef/staff scales from 45.8% to 100%, the bass clef/staff scales from 45.8% to 100%, the bracket scales from 29% height/44% width to 100% height/100% width, the left border line scales from 29% height/50% width to 100% height/100% width, and the right border line scales from 29% height/50% width to 100% height/100% width

Shortcuts are resetting on startup
Hi,
I've this strange behaviour from a month so I'm using 2015.3 instead of 2017 for this issue: I have several custom shortcuts I've been using from some time.
When I change them in the txt shortcut file and I start After Effects they are resetted to the default ones. In the other versions this doesn't happen, so how I can use 2017 version with my custom shortcut?
Any ideas because the shortcuts are brought back to the defaults?

10-Bit output from AE and PPro
Hi,
I want to buy a 10-bit monitor. (I have a Quadro M2000 for 10-bit output) After some research I get confused. If I place composition panel (or program monitor panel in PPRO) on 10-bit monitor, I will see 10-bit output? (My footage also are 10-bit!) Or I must have a I/O card (like Decklink) and use Mercury Transmit to get 10-bit picture?

Error cached preview needs 2 or more frames to playback in cc 14.2
Got this error in any proj in any comp, even in empty proj and empty comp.
Read all from internet about this situation. Nothing of it doesnt help.

No live update while scrubbing through image sequences (Live Update enabled)
As the title states, my comp window no longer updates as I scrub through the timeline even though Live Update is turned on. This happens only on image sequences. I can scrub through a video and it will update.
The only way for me to scrub through live is to first cache the sequence. This used to not be the case before where I could scrub through image sequences without needing to cache.
Changing the quality from Full to Quarter doesn't make any difference, neither does switching to Fast Draft or Adaptive Resolution.
The current frame just remains frozen until I release the cursor at the new timeline location, at which point, the picture will update.
Details:
After Effects CC 2017.2 (14.2.0.198)
Intel Core i7 7700K, 64 GB RAM, GTX 1080 Ti, 300 GB Media Cache on separate SSD
Image sequence: 250 frame, 8-bit, 1080p TIFF sequence rendered out of 3ds max imported at 25 FPS into an 8 bpc project.
The frames are on an internal, SATA drive.

Refresh Disabled Alert
Hi,
I've recently started getting the 'Refresh Disabled alert' coming up everytime I try to do anything in the composition. I've checked the caps lock and its not on, I've even uninstalled and reinstalled the app. It still comes up.. Is this a bug? Can I get rid of it some how?
Any clues are welcome

After Effects 14.2 not migrating my old shortcuts that i used to use in 14.0
I used to use custom english shortcuts since CC 2015. But after CC 2017.2 (14.2) update my shortcuts not working anyore.
I've tried migrating form 14.0 it didn't worked.
Resync my settings with downloading.
Manually copied 14.0 shortcuts to C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\14.2 renaming
Adobe After Effects 14.0 Win en_US Shortcuts.txt to -> Adobe After Effects 14.2 Win en_US Shortcuts.txt
It didn't worked either. When after effects opening, it changes the shortcut text file to default one.
How can i get back my shortcuts I've been using for years to 14.2?

can't change the color of a solid shape
I am creating lower thirds for a video, and would like the change the color of the rectangle I created. I can't seem to get the color selection to come back. I keep clicking on the shape and it is not giving me the option of editing the color. How do I get it to come back?

Creating second path in a shape
Hi everyone,
I am trying to follow this youtube tutorial (Animate On Banners - Adobe After Effects tutorial - YouTube ~ at 2.18) for creating animated banners in After Effects CC and when I try to add a shape to my current shape. The shape is out of proportion and is distorted. How can I fix this?

Grey box on Composition Background Cant get rid of
Been working on a project for two days and everything's fine. Today I did a little square grey box for a track matte. Didn't like it so I deleted the layer. But box stayed on screen. I disabled every layer trying to figure out where it was but it is not on any layer. Somehow it seems it ended up on composition background and is visible in every layer. Anyone know why this happened or more importantly how to get rid of it without starting over?

Cinema DNG Replace With Composition
This is a reoccurring problem that happens when you try to link a comp through premiere using cinema DNG files. Once it opens in AE you only see one frame. Adobe has stated it's a known problem but still haven't fixed it. Most will just replace the single image with a new sequence but the problem is you have to reset the in and out points manually. However, if you right click the dng file in the project window and go to Replace Footage>File and find the new sequence it will replace it in the comp with the correct points and will translate to premiere live. Just thought I'd share this tip as I didn't see any other post about it.

Quicktime not installed in CS6 Windows 10
Hi, I work in social media and I recently started my own business. After knocking a lot of doors I finally got my first contract that needs to be brought out on Wednesday. And when I open my AE to start this gig guess what. I got a "Quicktime not installed...." thing. Just to let you know, I've read plenty of cyclical threads here troubleshooting QuickTime errors with After Effects CS5, CS5.5, CS6, and CC | Creative Cloud blog by Adobe So I started the first solution on installing the last version of quicktime tha'ts clearly not the problem since it didn't work. So following the second solution which is to remove the DVCPROHDVideoOut QuickTime component I simply just can't find it unless I am looking in the wrong folder. c:\Program Files (x86)\Quicktime\ and when I get there I got this:
And after clicking on QTComponents is empty...so no clue where it could be to delete it.

After effects cc 2017 crashes with workspaces, MTS files, and more
I am on Windows 10 Pro, 3.6 Intel i7 Hexacore, 64 gb ram, 2X Titan Ti, SSD for HD and Adobe apps
I recently switched over to Windows from my old 2013 iMac.
First issue:
After Effects seems less stable on my set up. Far more crashes and headaches than I am used to. As of lately I am experiencing crashes when I try to customize my work spaces. It seems like if I try to doc a script to the left side column default dock area, it works for a little bit, but then it ultimately crashes and I have to delete my preferences and try to set up my layout and it happens all over again. This behavior also happened on my iMac, though not this often.
So then I have to re-key my purchased scripts and that process is so aggravating.
Second issue:
When I am scrubbing .MTS files in AE and I try to hit shift-0 to play back skipping every other frame at half resolution, AE just crashes. No error dialogue, no warning... Just This Program has stopped responding etc...
My question is has anyone had similar behavior with the work spaces and if so have you found a solution?
And has anyone had problem with playing back .MTS files and have it crash repeatedly? If so how have you fixed it? (The .MTS files are like 4k with some color correction effects, Key Light and a couple Layer Style effects too.)
I'm getting to know this new system and all its quirks. I'd really like to spend more time being productive and less time on here trying to get back to being productive... thanks for any help! If you suggest deleting preferences I already got that covered and it doesnt solve the problem, the preference file keeps getting corrupted some how.

Cineware performance in AE 6x slower than in Cinema4D... and it crashes while rendering
Hi all,
I've seen a couple of older forum posts about Cineware performance, but none of them offer any solutions, unfortunately. I have a fairly simple model in Cinema 4D with several parallel spots (set to not cast shadows) and some geometry, but no textures. In Cinema 4D, the scene renders in less than a second, probably a half second or so. In AE, each frame takes 5 to 6 seconds to render at full res (1080), with the whole comp projected to take about 20 min to render. In AE, there are two Cinema 4D layers with one of them being used as a track matte. The only other thing AE is doing is compositing the C4D scene with a QuickTime, but the render time is the same if I turn off the QT layer.
What's arguably a larger issue is that AE keeps crashing while rendering out the comp. I looked at the Console and this message came up:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000024
Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY
One time I did get an error about running out of memory, which would make sense. While AE is rendering, its memory usage is slowly creeping up and up until nearly all 24GB of my Mac Pro are used up. There aren't any textures in this project, so I'm not sure why it's eating up so much memory. Nor do I understand why it isn't purging unused memory as it moves along in the render.
Any ideas?

Why does my keylight effect disappear when I add another effect?
I an a newbie to Adobe After Effects. I work with students in an elementary school. I am using CC5. I layered some green screen video over another video, then masked out an area and used keylight to remove the green screen. I precomposed this green screen layer and tried to add timewarp effect to it. You can see in the picture below the keylight effect seems to be undone and can't be redone. I tried to render it out to see if it would be corrected and it was not. I have played with every setting I could find; I am at a loss. Help

after effect write-on randomly stops working
I'm currently working on an animation that it supposed to have the Whiteboard drawing style:
-I go into each individual asset
-do the brush write-on effect
-Make that layer paint effect transparent
-copy that layer and delete the paint effect on the copied layer, and put the track matte to "Alpha Matte 'name of layer'"
My composition settings are 30 seconds per frame, with a 10 minute duration.
I did this to all 6 layers, but the 5th and 6th won't show up when I press play, but show up when I drag the (current time indicator?)
Please help!
