I'm new to AE, though I've seen some tutorials, and I'm creating a 2D animation in with some drawings I created in Illustrator.
The shot I'm working on shows the screen of a cellphone. I want two drawings (pictures) to be slided from right to left with the thumb.
Then I want the alphabetic phone book to scroll upwards.
I've got the cellphone (which is leaning), the phone book and the two drawings which are supposed to be pictures.
How should I address it (for dummies, please).

As you can see in the picture above my .aex icons are not correct. On another user on this computer, the icons show up fine. My After Effects CC 2014 is up to date. It's running on windows 8.1.
I searched the boards for a solution, but it didn't appear anyone else had even asked the question. Hoping to find an answer! Not a pressing matter, just a peeve

Okay so I have adobe after effects cc 2014 watched and spent probably over 30 hours watching tutorials and trying to render videos and everything is 10gb plus i feel like this is a joke seeing as everyone else i know is rendering 200mb by doing exactly what im doing in the same program.
Wasting my time & money here and starting to lose my mind please can someone help!
My AE pops up saying "copy save" whenever i try to scroll through the timeline, then when i click save it doesnt work, so i click cancel, and AE crashes, ive tried for HOURS AND HOURS AND IM SO STRESSED! I HAVE THINGS TO DO AND I NEED HELP!
Whenever I try to use Cinema 4d Lite, I can get to the application, but cannot make any changes without crashing. I have tried either creating a file using File>New>Maxon Cinema 4d file, or creating a 3d comp in AE, exporting to Cinema 4d Lite, importing it, and going to Edit>Edit original. For example, when I create a new Cinema 4d file, if I try to create a rectangle, I see the rectangle appear, but then the application is frozen (spinning teal circle forever). If I try to edit original file, the Cinema 4d application opens, but it is frozen.
I am on Windows 7 Professional, on an HP Z800 Workstation with 40 GB RAM, 64 bit Operating System. NVIDIA Quadro 4000 graphics card.
I've been seeing a few commercials and even a few videos surface, one in particular, which seems to be a pencil illustration of a dog which then comes to life to the actual video image of the dog. Does anyone know what I am referring to? I don't know what they are called but I would love to do some of these for my own work and I don't know where to start or even how to for that matter.
I want a slider to be operating in the range of 100 to 500 instead of the default of 0 to 100.
Is there an easy way to simply change the range a slider operates in, or does this require creating an expression that does this as maths?
Please see the image here, made in Illustrator by faking it, but I'm wondering if it's possible to make this by setting a line as the point at which fills reach, without making closed shapes.

I'm currently installing my new workstation and came across the same issue however, I have 36 physical cores, 72 virtual cores but only 36 are visible by AE.
Using latest CC2014.

I'm on AE on adobe CC. While I'm stabilizing shots (using the warp stabilizer), the auto-save function always starts saving my project (during the background analyse), even though I've 1) disabled the auto-save in the preference or 2) put it on every 600 minutes! It forces me to crash the software, making my life unbearable :-)
I've never had that problem with CS6. Am I missing something? Is there another form of autosave? Or is it just that Adobe have lost it??

I cannot launch Ae 2014 (13.1.1) on my machine running 10.10. Uninstalled and reinstalled Ae and still no luck. Cannot get past "quit unexpectedly" screen.

It works fine sometimes when i scroll but it seems like when i tend to scroll backwards with jeyframes it shows "Copy Save" then i exit it and it crashes.
I can provide screenshots if you would like.
The bars on the left of this image, when scaled as a group, give the result in the middle.
What sort of nesting arrangement of layers and groups is required to get the result on the right?
Hi, I have updated to OS X Yosemite, I am using AE 13.1.1.3, and now I am having an issue with RAM-Preview that makes working with AE problematic: When I start the Preview by hitting "0" on the Numpad the Ram Preview starts, but I am not able to stop it anymore until it has rendered to the end of the work area.
It is also strange that I am able to move keyframes while it renders.
The Shift-Ram Preview is also affected by this bug.

The function to open up a second comp viewer (with a sub comp) to view two comps next to each other at the same time, SEEMS TO BE MISSING IN AE CC 14.
or does anyone know where I might find it.
It used to be in the comp pop-up menue at the upper left corner of the comp window. but it´s not there anymore....

I appreciate the hardwork involved in updating the apps, but the light blue on grey isn't cuttin' it for my eyes. Is there a way to change it? I can't seem to find a setting in Prefs > Appearances.
has anyone found a solution to the slow render thing?
my 2012 mac pro constantly locking up during renders.
camera lens blur seems to be a bit of a culprit but even with that off, rendering seems achingly slow.
This issue started out of nowhere for what I consider to be no reason. Working on average sized 720p compositions with modest animations.
I have tried all suggested solutions on this forum yet nothing has worked. I am running fresh comps in AE CC with absolutely no plugins, freshly purged memory, cleaned cache, restarted comp, no other applications running on computer and 13 gb of memory allocated to AE... etc.
I cannot seem to fix this issue.
Whats the next step?

I want to create a video with growing curved lines, growing in a similar way to the stalks of a plant, with a pointy end that is at the edge of the growing line.
Could somebody point me in the direction of which elements I'd need to put together for this.
I'm finding all these types of layers quite confusing.
Any advice appreciated
