Roto Brush Tool Problem

I am using AE 2017 and am having a problem with the roto brush tool. When I select an object to isolate, and then press Pg Down to go to the next frame, it adjusts the pink line, as it should. After about 20 frames, though, it suddenly drops the pink line and I have to start all over again tracing. As I am working with 2000+ frames, I don't want to have to do it this way. Is there another, faster way to roto frames?

"Error: Cached Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback"

I've just purchased CC and started using After Effects to add text to a Premiere Pro project that I completed last night. I keep getting the error above when I try to preview by pressing the space bar.

I've tried importing the project. I've tried exporting the project as media and importing that. I've tried using Import in the menu bar, dragging and dropping... I've tried different formats, tried different media files, no dice. I'm running a 2015 Mac Pro (quad core, 12GB RAM), which I assume is powerful enough. I am not running any other software at the same time, and have tried rebooting, resetting the cache, etc.

Have searched and there are so many threads and no answers. Am I going to have to give up on After Effects, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks - if I had hair left, I'd be tearing it out.

Cached Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback?

Hi, I have been struggling with this After Effects for 2 days now and badly need to fix this.

When I try to preview what I am working on in my composition by pressing my space bar and clicking on the play button, I get this pop up message: "Cached Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback". When I click OK, I usually get the following pop-up: "Fresh layer cache check-out failed".

I cannot seem to get more than one frame in green or blue (cached). I have already tried Purging the memory, cleaning the database & cache and emptying my disk cache. I have also tried working on my other after effects files ( which all worked fine a few days ago) and they all have trouble previewing. I also tried working on earlier versions of After Effects and that either did not change my situation or could not open my files (not compatible versions, which is confusing to me because I have switched versions in the past when having a problem in AE and never had files not open because of version compatibility).

My max disk cache size is 75, which has always worked fine for me, with 12 GB RAM available for AE.

My "Reduce cache size when system is low on memory" is NOT checked and I have no other programs running.

Running latest version of After Effects 2017, 14.0.1.5

It's my first time posting a question on here so if I'm missing any useful info, please let me know.

I see a lot of people asking this same question on forums and have tried many of the tricks and tips, even the strange or very general ones, cleaned up a ton and restarted the computer and the program many times. None of the forums questions seemed to have been answered with a clear answer though, so hoping someone can help me as the Adobe chat will only open in two days and I have clients waiting for their work.

Thank you

Color Finesse: Adding Reference Media to Gallery?

Hello, I'm trying to add reference media to my gallery in color finesse for color grading. However, when ever I try to "Create new" in the gallery or drag and drop into the Gallery folder, Color Finesse crashes.
Is there another way to add reference media, or to find the folders there on Mac?

Ram Preview Problems (Cached Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback)

Hi there,

this has been asked before, but none of the given solutions solved the problem for me.

As soon as my projects get a little bigger, Playback is limited to just a couple of frames, before it jumps back to the first cached frame.

On my current project, most of the time playback doesn't even start but prompts me with the message:

After Effects error: Cached Preview needs 2 ore more frames to playback (actually the german version of it: After-Effects Fehler: Wiedergabe einer Cache-Vorschau benötigt mindestens 2 Frames.)

When this Error occurs, After Effects only uses about 2.5 - 5 Gig of the installed 16 Gig RAM, although i set it up to use 12.

CPU usage is arround 15%

No other CC applications are running, browsers are closed.

On this specific project, i have a couple of audio layers and 4K Video Footage (XAVC-S / .mp4 from a Sony A7SII)

The "rewinding" Playback after just a few frames also occurs on projects that have no video footage but are done fully within After Effects.

My PC Specs:

Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Intel Core i7-4790 @ 3.60GHz
16 Gig Ram

AMD FirePro W5100 (FireGL V)

After Effects CC 14.0.1.5

Windows and After Effects running on a 232 Gig SSD with currently 36,5 Gig available space.

Some of my footage is on this Drive, most is on a regular HDD (450 Gig/360 available)

What i already tried:

- Raising the allowed RAM from 8 Gig to 12.

- Purching the Disc Cache (Its currently set to 15, but raising it didn't change the result)

- Cleared Databank and Cache

- Unchecked "Reduce Cache Size when system is low on memory"

- Reduced Viewer resolution to Quater and turned on "Fast Preview"

- And of course i closed, reopened and restarted the PC...multiple times.

Thank you!

cached preview needs 2 or more frames to play back

Okay i know that this question has been asked probably a million times by now, but since the adobe support is absolute trash it looks like I'm going to have to ask again here to see if i can get any help regarding this issue. I keep getting an error saying "after effects error: cached preview needs 2 or more frames to play back".

No matter what i seem to try it keeps coming up. I cant figure out at all why it is doing it. I've done literally everything i can think of, and Ive done multiple reinstalls, however no matter what i try it keeps happening. At first when i do a reinstall nothing will happen, i can have maybe one comp and it'll work fine, but the minute i go above one comp/precomp the error pops up, and then will continue to appear on every single project regardless of the size after that.

Im starting to regret getting involved with this program, as this error or bug makes the program virtually unusable.

Does anyone have any sort of solution to this issue?

Hi all,

Whenever I try to preview my composition it shows the error message 'After Effects error: Cached Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback.'

I have searched the internet for solutions and tried everything I have read; restarted the project, restarted my Mac, purged all memory and disk cache. My project doesn't have any audio (I read this could be the problem.) It's a nightmare as I can't even preview one frame!

After effects version: After Effects CC 13.5.1.48

Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.4

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

since the last update (13.7) AE is using up all my memory (12GB for AE, 4 GB reserved for other applications). After that I get the message "Cached Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback". The only solution for me is to restart AE so I get all the memory back, it doesn't work automatically.

Using the purge options do not work any longer.
