Preview problem in After Effects
When I try to preview footage in After Effects, I get "Cached Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback." What's up with that?
I'm getting Unable to allocate 0.002MB of memory
mac 8g mem 2.6 Processor el captian
Can't allocate 0.002MB of memory?
Unable to allocate enough memory to render the current frame
Unable to Allocate 0.002 MB (After Effects CC 2017.1)
I tried to make this as easy to read as possible.
The Issue:
I have had this message show up in the most simple projects. It happens when I am just scrubbing through the timeline, RAM previewing, adjusting an effect, moving a layer...you name it. The only time it doesn't happen is when I am actually rendering/exporting a comp in the Render Queue. When it does pop up, and after you click "OK", it will then let me continue to work and show up again a minute later, or crash After Effects.
I have tried everything that Adobe's site recommends to do provided in this link ( adobe.com/go/learn_ae_mem ), and still have this issue. I even empty the disk cache every time I open After Effects, emptying out all 93 GB out of 93 GB, and the error still shows up. There is no way this should fill up with the type of projects that I am working on either.
So with the cache being emptied every time I open AE on a daily basis, and have almost all the memory pooled to AE instead of the other Adobe programs, I'm out of options.
Our IT team did find this previous forum post with a user having the same issue and found that this was a bug in AE. Unable to allocate 0.002MB of memory Unfortunately it does not apply to my version.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Memory allocation problems (OSX Mavericks)
Hello.
I am using Adobe After Effects CS6 on my Macbook Pro Retina 15", using Mac OSX Mavericks. My Macbook Pro has 16 GB RAM.
I am having some serious trouble with rather simple tasks, when it comes to the memory allocation.
I have a project file containing quite a bunch of highres TIFF-files. I add these to a composition and wand to sequence them - and After Effects cannot manage this, neither by the built in sequencing function, nor using a JavaScript for sequencing a specified number of frames.
And here's the... well... "interesting" part...
Adobe After Effects tells me that it cannot allocate 0,002 MB of memory (and the yadayada about that I can decrease the memory requirements or installing more RAM...) - see the enclosed image to see the actual message. Well, I still got a MacBook Pro with 16 GB RAM. I have tried to change the memory settings, cache settings etc etc etc... I have also tried resetting all the memory/cache settings etc. But nothing works (the alternative is probably for me to manually enter each and every single layer and sequence them on my own... did I mention that its about 5 000 images?).
According to my memory information, there are quite a big amount of memory being used, absolutely - but it still say that I have at least 2 GB memory free when I started the activity of sequencing these layers.
See the image below. Someone, please help... I dont want to spend a couple of days sorting 5 000 layers!
Thanks in advance!
/Jacob
UPDATE:
I did some restarts and changes in my system to free some more memory. When I started AE my computer used about 4 GB, and when I started the sequencing it used about 6 GB (see the image below)... which means that I should have about at least 10 more GB of memory to use, but AE still warns me about that it can not render due to a lack of memory.
I did succeed with the sequencing ONCE, however I did get the message shown above (about that After Effects are unable to allocate 0,002 MB of memory) when I was going to save the file. And it is impossible to get rid of this message as it pops up over and over and over again.
Here's the message again, together with the memory overview. It's in Swedish though, but as you see (the number after "Använt minne") it is only using about 6 GB RAM of 16 GB in total.
Please help!
Bug Fixes and Workflow Speedups in the June 2017 update for After Effects
Looks like the "Cached preview needs 2 or more frames to play back" error bug is fixed! This should benefit a LOT of people judging by the number of threads about this I've seen.
There are also a number of performance improvements for importing Illustrator files, Dynamic Link rendering, and more.

After Effects 2017 preview lagging
I've update AE to the newest version and the preview is lagging. I can't preview in real-time anymore (RAM stuck at 11/12 fps or something). Even a simple motion in the simplest composition doesn't play smooth.
Also when I start previewing (spacebar), I can't stop the preview without After Effects crashing or lagging (constant spinning wheel) and have to wait for it to respond or restart AE.
Audio preview is also a horror. Within 2 frames of playback the audio slows down and pitches down. These problems I never had with the previous version. I can't work on my projects without a normal preview and animating on a voiceover. What's going on here? Any thoughts?
I'm working on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) - 2,5 GHz Intel Core i7 - 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Time rules (Displaying time seconds instead of frames)
i want to display seconds in my timeline window but i am getting still frames. Before i wrote here also i googled to fix this problem and followed the steps below :
- Ctrl-click (Windows) the current-time display. The current-time display is in the upper-left corner of the Timeline panel and at the bottom of the Layer, Composition, and Footage panels is not worked.
- File>Project settings>time display settings>timecode not worked
then i closed after effects and clicked shift+ctrl+alt to reset preference settings of after effects and opened a new project and new composition then i achived to showing seconds later on i bring that problem composition to the new new project but i still getting frames instead of frames in timeline.
Probably i click wrong key while i worked on my project. How can i fix this issue and recover that setting?
Thanks for your kind helping attempt.

[Moderator moved from The Lounge to After Effects.]
Basically I moved my auto saved folders in to different folders when I tried to open up my latest project again I had to locate Media which hadn't happened with project I located media then It told me to Locate Rendered files which I hadn't see before but I did locate them when my project loaded all my footage with after effects on which was most of them, they just had coloured bars on I tried rendering but nothing happened I tried opening the Effects, in after effects same coloured bars came up nothing working. I tried moving all my Auto saved files back in the same places as good as I could but still didn't work, Is there anyway to resolve this or did Really mess up here.
Advice on using Templates and bought video clips in After Effects CC
Hi,
I'm making my first After Effect project using After Effects CC 2017 release.
I'm making a short party invitation for my 55th birthday
I've bought into VideoBlocks so I have content to use: (www.videoblocks.com )
I downloaded some templates and I'm using to have a place to start: Inks Parallax Slideshow ( After Effects Project Files) - YouTube
It's a nice looking template and helps the newbie as it includes embedded instructions.
When I render the template project as I downloaded it, the render takes about an hour.
When I add the video content to the 18 "slots" in the template my render time goes up to over 35 hours.
I tried this using the mp4 and mov versions of the files and I also tried converting them to AVI. All of them hold MPEG4.
Questions:
Is this a reasonable render time?
I can convert the files to other formats and Codecs using Sony Vegas. What format/Codec should I use?
I'm I missing something?
My Setup:
Windows 7 SP1 x64
Intel i7 - 4930K @ 3.40HHz. 6 Cores
24GB RAM
Assets and .aep on standard SATA HD
Rendering to SSD SATA HD
NVidia GeForce GTX 760
AE CC 14.1 very long save times
Hey everyone,
I have read other threads and I want to let you know that:
- My project does not have any Rotobrush or Warp effects.
- Project file size is 3MB. Another file that's doing the same thing is only 4MB.
- Working off a high-speed network at the office. We pull assets from here and save in here as well. (NAS)
- Disk cache is set to my local SSD. (Haven't erased the cache yet though)
- I've deleted AE preferences and still getting long save times.
- Auto-save and Save features hang on 0% for a while (more than 7 seconds) and then immediately go away and Save is done. There's no progress bar.
- Working with Targa and PNG Sequences mostly.
- This specific project is 16bit, but others are 32bit and even 8bit and still taking a long time to save.
This started just a couple of days ago. It's been saving fast, specially autosaves, but right now every autosave (every 10min) takes almost 30 seconds and we all know how annoying that is for workflow.
My system:
Intel i7-6950X 3.00GHz
32GB RAM
2x GTX 1080 Tis
Windows 10 Home (version 1703)
