Rendering/Exporting using too much CPU?

$

I'm a super noob, and I don't want to break my fancy computer.

I started with some footage in Premiere Pro, brought it into After Effects, added a green screen key to every clip of the footage, like 10 cameras (one for each, because noob and don't know better), and two layers to be a 3d background, and a light. So, I understand that rendering is going to be a long process. After Effects kept crashing so I took the composition to Media Encoder, chose my format, and pressed start. My computer's CPU use shot up to 3.5/3.3GHz. And I stopped the render after a few minutes and it hadn't rendered at all.

I might be worrying too much, but the footage could take hours to finish rendering and I don't want to leave my CPU that hot for that long.

I have both the latest CC2015 and CC2017 installed. On opening After Effects 2017 gives two plugin errors:

1. After Effects error: couldn't find main entry point for PremiereProImport.plugin (48::72)

2. After Effects error: couldn't find main entry point for Moka.plugin (48:72)

Can't seem to find anything online or in these forums. Thanks for helping!

Error message: Couldn't find main entry point for PermiereProImport.plugin (48 :: 72)

Greetings.  I've been getting this AE error message.  Worked with Adobe AE support for over two hours (in my computer) doing all kinds of things and the problem continues.  Not able to import or copy Premiere Pro clips to AE.  Also uninstalled AE and reinstalled it.  The problem continues.  Does anyone out there have any ideas as to what is going on?  This is getting ridiculous!  Appreciate your thinking.  Apparently Adobe support has no solution and neither do I nor could I find anything about the error message in the manual.

Why doesn't my RAM preview match my render?

So I'm working on a very short animation morphing between two images and I am able to preview it successfully in the RAM preview, but once I try to render it within AE or AME the morphing layers don't seem to line up- the scale and their position are off so both the base image and the overlaid morph target are visible when they should be stacked on top of each other. I'm fairly new to this software so I'm completely stumped as to why this discrepancy exists.

After Effects CC: Enabling Time Remapping displaces clip and slows it

Hello everyone, as I have to sync some game footage (720p30fps) to a song, I have started using Time Remapping today.
It worked fine, but all of a sudden (or so I think) everything kept going horribly wrong: If I right-click a layer and select Time>Enable Time Remapping, the timeline for it pops up, but there are no keyframes (as opposed to one at start and beginning). The selected frame changes and is at a totally different point in time (last time in-game time was ~4 min instead of ~11 min), but layer markers stay at their previous point in relation to the composition; however, they are at a totally different scene of the actual layer.
Example: I layer-mark a kill at 5:00 in game and 1:00 into the composition, after I enable Time Remapping, the layer hasn't moved and the marker is still at 1:00, but now at a totally different in-game scene.
So I checked if the timing had changed, and apparently the game time only ran 30 secs further between two points that should have been exactly 1 minute apart.
I should mention that the clips are taken from a video that's more than 5 hours long, so the start and ending point of it are outside of the composition, the In and Out (?) of the layer are obviously inside of it, though.

I really hope you understand my problem and perhaps you can help me out.
Sorry for my English, but thanks in advance!

Merging/Tracking Hand Masks

$

Hello,

I am currently completing a video which shall be shown as a biography of my Uncle's (painter) life at an art gallery.  Following a search through a site containing royalty-free stock footage, I began to edit a clip showing hands sculpting, however, the mentioned hands had many wrinkles (individual must appear younger to "fit" in the supposed sequence of events).

In order to remove the wrinkles, I duplicated the (video) layer many times, masking and blurring a single area in each.  Although the result was successful for a single frame, it required a great number of "Mask Shape" key-frames to be applied to nearly every mask in the project.*

How would one merge the masks into a larger mask or track the hands to "fast blur" specific wrinkles (or simply achieve the desired result)?

Thanks.

Create Realistic Underwater Scene

I've just been trying to use Red Giant's Psunmai to make an underwater scene. I don't get very far before AE crashes. I'm thinking because Red Giant doesn't include it anymore in their suites, that maybe it's retired. I'm running Adobe CC 2017, so maybe the older plugin isn't compatible. So I was wondering if there's another effect out there to help me create a realistic underwater scene?

So far, all my Youtube and Google searches aren't giving me what I'm looking for. It's usually how to make a watery text, bubbles, foam, puddles etc. But nothing for just plain old underwater where you can see the surface rippling above you.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

AE and Ryzen 1700 are not playing well together

Just recently finished building my new desktop with the following specs:

Ryzen 1700 - Air cooled with stock cooler

16GB G. Skill FlareX (running at 2400MHz because for some reason I can't edit the frequency on BIOS but it's advertised to run at 3200MHz)

2x EVGA 1070s

EVGA 850w PSU

500GB WD Blue SSD + 1TB WD Blue HDD

I've been noticing some weird performance issues. I am a seasoned Motion Artist so I use After Effects a LOT. Thing is that I've noticed that after a while of normal usage AE becomes laggy, specially while rendering with Adobe Media Encoder. This wasn't happening with my previous Intel PC or my Intel PC at work. I am able to render in the background using Adobe Media Encoder or Background Render for After Effects and continue working without problems on AE. Even rendering in Cinema 4D and continue working in AE plus doing the normal everyday browsing and having a bunch of apps open. Usually after Media Encoder finishes rendering I have to actually quit it so that After effects goes back to normal.

I've kept an eye on my processor to try and figure out the problem, but while rendering from Media Encoder it caps at around 30% usage, so what's going on? Granted I am working off the HDD but I don't suspect this is the issue since AE works fine when Media Encoder is not open.

I can only suspect the bottleneck is the memory then? I know I still have to figure out overclocking the memory and processor but still, this is an 8 core 16 thread processor running at 3.00GHz (stock) but still should be able to handle this.

I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas as I really need this computer to perform like I was expecting.

After Effects won't open on my Mac

I'm running into the same problem. I'm on macOS Sierra 10.12.5 and on a Mid 2010 Mac Pro.  After Effects CC 2017.2 (14.2) quits when I try to launch it.

I've tried uninstalling using the CC tool and App Cleaner then reinstalling just AE. This did not work.

AE 14.1 will open but not 14.2

I'm creating a timeline using a shape layer, with the repeater to create the grid line. The problem is that when I copy (and I want to make 200 copies in the repeater), it just goes until 20. Is repeater limited, or is it a bug on my After? Thank you!

Wanted: a workflow to alter video for projection in a cinema

$

Background

I'm converting my three-screen audio-visuals to Blu-ray format, with the aim of presenting them at the local cinema. Basically they're slide shows from the 80s and 90s, with a few added clips from my GH3, and new stereo soundtracks. It's just a hobby, but I want to do the absolute best job I can.

All content enters Premiere as sRGB, exits as H.264 Blu-ray (m4v format), and passes through Encore (without transcoding) to a Blu-ray disk. I then check it out on a BenQ W7000 projector in my home theatre  – my test bed.

At the Cinema

What I am concerned about is how the presentations will look in the cinema. I've had a short tour of the projection room. They run four Barco projectors…

https://www.barco.co...5ft.aspx#!specs

… and the projectionist assured me that I can feed in my Blu-ray content via the HDMI input on the Barco.

Different Gammas

My entire workflow is in sRGB, from scanner (or GH3), to my iMac's monitor, through to my BenQ W7000 projector. However, Cinema projectors, I read somewhere, have a gamma of 2.6, and I assume they use the colour space I've seen in my list of Photoshop profiles: DCI P3 RGB (Gamma 2.6) 5900K. When, as a test, I applied that profile to a scanned image, there was a significant darkening.

I want to retain my sRGB workflow as it works well with Premiere, but I suspect I'll have to alter the rendered video so that what I see in the cinema matches what I see in my home theatre. And I'm not sure of the best way to do that, but I suspect I'll have to use After Effects.

Ques 1

If I play my Blu-ray disk – as it stands now – through the Barco projector at the cinema, is the image really going to look darker than at home?

Ques 2

My first thought on how to alter the video was to use an effect in Premiere. I came across Cineon Converter, and when I selected the options log-log, and set the gamma to 2.6/2.2 = 1.18, it seemed to work well. I altered the monitor gamma to 2.6 during the test (which darkens Premiere's image), and when I applied Cineon Converter the image seemed to return to it's original look.

Is using Cineon Converter an effective way to alter sRGB to DCI P3?

Ques 3

Another idea I've had:

  1. In Premiere, create a Master sequence of the entire video and replace that with an After Effects composition.
  2. In After Effects, convert the composition to the DCI P3 colour space. (I don't know how to do that, but I'll work it out).
  3. Back in Premiere, export the Master sequence as I normally would and build to Blu-ray in Encore.

Would the above steps work? Is that the best way to have the cinema and home-theatre images look the same?

AE CC2017 not seeing any GPU in system ?

$

Hi. I recently upgraded After Effects to latest 2017 upgrade and now i can't even start it properly. It starts 1/10 times and when it starts it's not seeing any of GPUs installed in my system.

I have Dual Xeon E5-2698v4, win10 64bit + 5 GPUs installed in system (1xTitan X (Maxwell), 2*GTX 1080 and 2* GTX1080Ti) with latest Nvidia driver 382.53. AE just reports NO GPUs at all ?

Other programs (I use this machine for GPU rendering in Octane) work fine with all 5 GPUs and yet AE says i have none ???.

I tried to reset AE prefs (holding on Alt+Shift+Ctrl) but not helped either. Most of time even starting AE leads to "not responding" splash screen and then i can't even kill AE.exe from Task manager (says Acess denied) so i need to restart machine to try again.

Please help.

Thanks

P.S. Photoshop, Premiere, and Media encoder work fine on same workstation.
