AE CC 2018 ridiculously slow

$

Seriously, what is wrong with AE CC 2018!?

I'm on an absolute beast of a workstation, a HP Z840 with 128 GB RAM, dual Titan X:s and so forth, but I can't even preview a simple text animation!

It takes forever to preview, and playback tops out at about 10 fps... I've got nothing in the timeline but animated text, no other graphics, no video, nothing.

And it's not only the preview that's messed up, the entire interface is laggy, when I move the cursor in the timeline sometimes it takes like a second for it to catch up.

Everything I try to do, import a file, keyframe an object, add an effect to something, and so on, takes forever.

I've done restarts, checked nvidia drivers, purged all memory and disk cache, cleaned database an cache, everything you could ever think of, but it's still painfully slow.

I never had these problems in cc 2017, it ran like a dream.

I'm at a point where it is virtually imposible to work, and it's making me a bit frustrated to say the least.

Don't tell me I have to downgrade to be able to work, that would just be, well, silly.

Why on earth would anybody release a version this unstable?

Shadow glitch with CC 2019 update

After updating to After Effects CC 2019, I noticed issues with my shadows as well as performance. There seems to be grainy noise when I have more than one layer casting shadows on my floor layer. Moving each layer along the Z plane to offset them seemed to help a little bit but when I checked, this is not an issue in CC 2018 so I'm wondering why now. It also causes my computer to crash periodically when I try to preview the problem areas.

Shadow glitch.PNG

The scene is set up with 5 3d layers (4 text, 1 logo animation precomp), stack up above a white 3d floor layer. The point light is above and slightly behind to cast a shadow forward. There is a 2d background layer at the bottom of the comp.

I am using the classic 3d renderer, so no layers are extruded.

My specs are:

These are my questions:

  1. Is anyone else experiencing this? (Specifically with a different video card.)
  2. Does anyone know how to fix it? (I am going back to CC 2018 to finish the project but would like to take advantage of updates in the future.)
  3. Adobe, has this been discovered as a know issue and will it be fixed or am I nearing the end of my hardware's life? (I can provide all hardware specs if necessary.)

What happened to the "Convert to Layered Comp" feature?

I'm trying to find the "Convert to Layered Comp" feature for an AI file and can't seem to find it. Usually you could right click on a layer in the timeline panel and it'd be there. Now it's just convert to shape layers (which makes the ENTIRE thing - a state with counties - one layer which I don't want).

It seems to be missing entirely in CC 2018.

Jumping to keyframes

I have many layers. Some are expanded to show keyframes, and are visible on screen. Some are expanded to show keyframes, but not visible on screen until I scroll down. My J and K keys do not jump to the keyframes of layers that are expanded but not visible on screen. I wonder if it has always been like this? I think it used to jump to keyframes of layers that were expanded but not visible. Am I wrong?

Can anybody read the number plate from this video?

The white van in this video was used to kidnap a child. Can anybody make the number plate readable? please note that, the numbers of the plate are written in our local language. So, if you can make it a little better, we can guess the rest. Please help me identify the criminals.

Quicktime MOV files causing long slow load save times

We have the latest CC2018 on multiple win7 machines and have noticed really slow load and save times lately.

I narrowed it down to quicktime files.

I did a simple test, create a new project and import 10 mxf files. I hit save and it saves instantly with the save dialog window basically only flashing on the screen in less than a second.

i remove those files and import 10 quicktime MOV files. They take a very long time to import and then when i hit save it takes a very long time. It actually "hangs" the program in windows sometimes and even will say (Not Responding) at the top for a while sometimes but then eventually saves.

I have tried different mov files, 1080p h264 from our JVC cameras, and also tried 4K h264 from our OSMO, And i even tried some files exported from a mac with final cut.   it all just goes very slow and cripples our actual projects we are trying to work on.

It seems to take almost 1 second per file for the save time and goes up infinitely. So once you get over 100 source files in your project it becomes a nightmare.

Any ideas?

Hello!

I have been getting this problem for a while now. When I open a project in After Effects the composition preview doesn´t show anything. I have tried to restart the computer, uninstall the app but it continues to show this problem.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I would really appreciate!

Why is AE still caching to my Program Drive (OSX)?

$

So this old Mac Pro trashcan only has a 256GB Program Drive; it's pretty full. We've been using an external SSD as a cache drive for a couple of years now, and have pointed the Disk Cache, Conformed Media Cache, Scratch Disks, Media Cache, Media Cache Database, etc. to it -- basically every app we have that can be changed to use an external cache drive.

I've just noticed that AE is still using the Program Drive as a cache, though. It slowly chews up the small amount of remaining disk space on the Program Drive, before throwing a "disk full" error. When I purge the memory and disk cache, I can watch in the Disk Info as the drive space is cleared.

Can anyone explain to me what's going on, and how to change this behaviour? AE is 100% definitely set to use the external cache, so it's not a matter of the settings having reverted to the Program Drive. Is the "memory and disk cache" that can manually be purged via the edit menu somehow different from the disk cache that can be accessed through the Preferences?

Can't See Motion Paths??

Motion Paths won't display. I'm using the latest updates for AE CS5 and nVidia. Motion Paths have never been visible in AE CS5 all the way back to nVidia driver version 178.x, in fact. What to do?

After effects crashes when the Explorer window opens

After effect crashes every time when Explorer window is opened.

I mean that this happens when opens the Windows Explorer window (save as, import, output to, etc..).

To use the new version is simply impossible, it is necessary to return to the 2013 version

Maybe there is a solution to the problem?

Version 2013 works perfectly.

When I booted in safe mode, this problem disappeared.

Windows reinstalled - it does not help.

Rotating around axis in world axis mode is not functioning properly

I dont get it. Im completely lost. I'm trying to create a simple zoom in on a 3d basketball court I created. I want the camera to aim down as it drops in from up above and rotates on its way down then smoothly transitions up to a normal horizontal view. I set up an orbit camera rig. I have not touched any of the position or rotation attributes on the camera it self. Everything centered, including the null anchor point.  I make the camera zoom by moving the null object from -80,000 (I dont understand why the lower the number the higher I move in Y space, if that's not correct please let me know) to 540. I rotate the null on the X axis to 90 degrees to start my animation. I have it set to World Axis Mode. When I go to animate the Y axis, the null ends up rotating on the Z axis. I dont get it. I'm very close to giving up on using the camera rig all together. I though it would be easier but everything is out of wack. Please help! Id use pictures but it's not gonna help.

Making an effect into a transparent video alone?

I'm a streamer and i'm trying to make a 10 second transparent snowfall video. I just want the snow and nothing else. Obviously I can't just place the effect without some kind of placeholder. The problem is everything I tried is failing. What I decided to do at first was make a bright green background and chroma key it out in OBS. The problem with this is that when i apply the chroma the entire video goes transparent, including the snow. Then I tried a different color to see if that helped with no luck. Then I tried to make the video into an AVI but I can't get the background to go away. Then I realized that since there is only 1 layer it would take it all away.

So the question becomes, is there a way for me to make this transparency happen or is it a lost cause?

how to solve anaylsis solve failed!

Hi,

I've encountered the analysis solve failed yesterday and after about 3 hours of looking for answers, i found one by myself.

this isn't really a discussion, but i thought my solution could help some people.

The problem with the shot was - it was simply too long.

you can apply 3d camera tracker in steps and it'll work.

for instance - take your full clip, and trim it way down so you only have about 3-4 seconds. track it.

once the tracking is done, strech the clip by a few frames more and so on. don't strech it too much because too many frames would cause it to fail.

a bit of a pain in the ***, but it's better than no track at all!

not sure if it's a bug on adobe's side or just a weird workaround, but it works for me.

happy editing

Can this [example] be accomplished in After Effects?

$

Just watch 0:00 - 1:20 in the video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAvYmE2YYIU&t=13s

I'm wondering if it's possible to accomplish exactly this with After Effects? I know After Effects is excellent with 2D animation. But it's the 3D portions of the example video that I'm wondering about. If not, than how did the creators of the video do this?

Thank you

I need to make a line size editable using Essential Graphics

$

I made a Essential Graphic AFv15 for use in PP2018

I have a line I created from a shape layer.

I need it to change position in Premiere - move down and give the end user control as to how far it moves down.

I see that some of the preloaded Essential Graphic have a place to keyframe and change size after being imported into Premiere.

How do I do that?

Thank you.  -C

Missing effect: SA color finesse

$

Opening any project, AfterEffects CC 2019 does not recognise colour effects added via the baked-in third party plug-in SA Color Finesse. Error message: "After Effects warning: this project contains a reference to a missing effect. Please install the following effect to restore this reference. SA Color Finesse 3."

Screen Shot 2018-12-15 at 15.17.21.png

The error message seems wrong, since it is clearly still present in this AE version:

Screen Shot 2018-12-15 at 16.20.13.png

Any suggestions? If this isn't resolved, I'm looking at a hundred hours reapplying colour, which I would rather spend doing other things.

This since transferring from an old to a new Macbook Pro (web transfer method). I've checked forums and adobe help, but no luck.

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Looping animated photo

Hi all

Please can anyone tell me how to loop  an animated photo. I have just added some scale and some movement properties,  the animation is about three or four seconds long and I wanted to loop for three minutes.

I have just tried the loopOut(type = "cycle", numKeyframes = 0) expression after precomping the original composition and extending the precomp out to 3 minutes but that doesn't seem to keep the animation.

Thanks

Hi, I saw on this page (After Effects keyboard shortcuts reference )

that the shortcut for "Zoom to 100% in Composition, Layer, or Footage panel" is "/".

I'm on an azerty keyboard and this shortcut doesn't work.

So: what shortcut do azkeyboardians use when they want to zoom to 100% ?
