After Effects render order

hey everyone, i hope you are doing great.

I'm trying to understand the render order in After Effects, so I made a composition "containing_comp", inside of it i created a "Null object" with a "slider control effect" on it, and a rectangle "shape layer" that I precomposed it as "nested_comp", after that i linked the scale of the shape layer in the "nested_comp" to the "slider control" on the "Null" in the "containing_comp" and it is working, but according to the render order of the "containing_comp" ,as i understood it, the first step is to render the shape layer in the "nested_comp" and in this step I suppose that After Effects doesn't see the Null yet, but it does take the value from the slider which doesn't match with my understanding of the render order.

Move imported shape's elements in 3D

Hi, I've imported an illustrator file, and converted the contents to shape layers. I've made the layers 3D to animate a 3D site plan.

I seem to be able to move the overall layer's position in 3D, but once I open up the layer to view the various shape groups, the individual Position controls only allow two axes of movement. Is there a way to convert the shapes to separate layers allowing for 3D animation?3D Movement.PNG

Missing Output Modules and no other way to render

Hello,

I am working on a project in After Effects CC 2018 and I need to export a 10 second 1920x1080 60fps video in h.264. However, when I first launched After Effects I got the "Unknown exception occurred" message and then AE opened as normal. When I finally got to rendering my composition, there is no AVI or Quicktime in the format drop down menu. This has never happened before and I have been using AE for 8 years and always output files this way.

I have also tried to output via Adobe Media Encoder however it automatically updated to CC 2019 and I have tried to downgrade it and CC 2018 won't install. Therefor, I am unable to use Adobe Media Encoder.

I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime many times with still no success.

My PC Specs are:

Windows 10

GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Intel Core i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70 Ghz

8GB DDR3 RAM

Many thanks

Ben Williamson

I'm doing a documentary about WWI, and when I bring in my Illustrator clip art file, it turns into a black square or rectangle as soon as I convert it into a shape layer in After Effects. Has anyone else run into this issue? Please let me know if you need more details. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Workflow for re-using animation

$

Hi

I'm creating animated explainer for years, doing quite a lot of videos every month.

Since I want to re-use my graphics/animation in future projects, I always use the same project file.

It has dozen of images and compositions in it, so it will be easy for me to pull up any animation/graphics/icons/background that I already created and combine them in the new video.

The problem is - the file gets so big, it's becoming very hard to work with.

Saving every project in a different file is not pratical, because I need to have access to all previously created animations/graphics easily, and not import multiple project files every time.

I was wondering what's the right way to do it, or if my case is too extreme to actually find a solution for it.

Thank you

Entry point not found for all CycoreFXHD plugins

This appears to be an upgrade/update-related problem. (Thanks, Adobe!) But I am getting the same error message for all of the CycoreFXHD plugins. They are located here:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CC 2019\Support Files\Plug-ins\Effects\CycoreFXHD

I have yet to go through other plugins. So there may be more. But I found that re-installing Stardust cleared that one up. And it managed to eventually find Optical Flares (Video Copilot). But I am mystified as the plugins in question are bundled with After Effects. (Do I need to uninstall and reinstall After Effects?) I tried temporarily moving the plugins in question (specifically Jaws, Kaleida and Composite) into the root Effects folder. Same result. Ideas? Thoughts?

Unable to Obtain dynamiclink server!

So, I had problems making a composition from replacing  premiere Pro into After effects because it said I did not have After effects installed when I was using it right next to Premiere Pro. So, I went directly into After effects and got the Premiere file from there. However, when I wanted to set the 3D Camera tracker, as I hit analyze it said “Unable to obtain Dynamic Link server”. Im guessing this problem is being caused because Premiere Pro and After effects can’t link with each other directly. Any help would be appreciated!

DPC Watchdog Violation and After Effects

$

I’m in the process of migrating from Mac to PC for video editing.  I’ve just built a new PC which seems to be running fine EXCEPT that the program I use most (After Effects) crashes constantly.  (So -- it's not really fine at all!) Sometimes the program will open and work for a few seconds, sometimes it crashes right at startup.  I always get a blue screen of death (BSoD) with a DPC Watchdog Violation error.

I have spent the past week reading posts about how to fix the error, and have done everything in the following list, but the problem persists:

  • Updated all my drivers
  • Done all Windows 10 updates
  • Flashed my BIOS to latest release
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects
  • Installed After Effects 2017 (vs 2018) – same crashes
  • Booted my computer in safe mode (actually got worse and ALL Adobe CC programs crashed on startup)
  • Confirmed (to the best of my ability) that all hardware is installed and running properly with the latest drivers

Needless to say, I’m frustrated that I’ve spent at least 20 hours trying to find the root of this problem and its still eluding me.  So…I thought I’d turn to the community for some help.

Here is my system build:

CPU - Intel - Core i9-7900X 3.3GHz 10-Core Processor
Motherboard - MSI - X299 SLI PLUS ATX LGA2066 Motherboard
Memory - Kingston - HyperX Predator 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3000 Memory

Storage - Samsung 970 Pro 1.0 TBM.2-2280 Solid State Drive
Storage - Seagate - BarraCuda Pro 10TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card - MSI - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GAMING X 8G Video Card

OS – Windows 10

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Adobe After Effects Crashing Upon Launch

I cleaned out and deleted a bunch of old files to save space so I could update Ae, but when I try to launch after updating it will just crash. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted the computer, and tried to reset some of the files I had (although none of them were connected to Ae, it was mainly photos, videos, and old versions of Windows I no longer needed), yet it still crashes upon launching.

Here is the crash report:

How to save keyframes on objects as a preset

saving keyframes.PNG

I just created my own video transition and would like to save the keyframes as a preset so I don't have to keep doing this over and over again with every video. However, when I select the two videos which are in my comp, the Save Animation Preset option is grayed out. Most instructions on the Internet deal with saving effects, not keyframes. This would save me a lot of time to just apply the preset to two videos and not have to create each individual keyframe over and over again with every video transition I wish to create. Thank you.

Because an issue in my Windows 10 I use A system restore to an earlier point, after doing that when I go to Adobe Creative Cloud I see the following term in front of Adobe After Effect CC app that say: Trial (Expires in 3 days) , ALSO  i see that After Effect is not listed in INSTALLED APPLICATION  SO IT CANNOT RUN

To resolve this issue I made the following trials to resolve my issue but without any positive results

1. Undo restore point

2. Use another TWO Adobe ID

I hope the right solution

Can't see Essential Graphics dropdown

I'm using AE CC 2017 and trying to work with EGP for the first time.

I followed this tutorial exactly:

https://www.schoolofmotion.com/tutorials/master-properties-after-effects

However, after nesting the comp in step 3 and going for step 4 whch says "Select your Master Comp in your timeline and click the dropdown menu. You’ll see ‘transform’ and a new menu item called ‘Master Properties’." - I don't see the Master Properties option in my dropdown list..

Any idea?

Thank you

Create new composition links

I am working on a video with 2 separate shots.  I completed the effects for the first shot and wanted to save some time re-using those elements in the 2nd. This first shot was completed using 5 compositions nested simply 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 5.

If I wanted to save time in creating the second shot some of the compositions/elements of the first, say comp #4, is it possible to duplicate them and the comp before them - and force AE to re-link to the duplicated comps?

The 2nd shot requires modifying some of the elements and I don't want the first shot to be affected, so without having to re-do alot of the work, is there a means within AE to force it to re-link to another comp nested within it?

Hope I'm making myself clear here.

Creating an MP4 file with a transparent background for a website

I would like to import a mp4 animated file which is the company logo and export it with a transparent background so it can be embed into a website page. I have gone through the steps imported into a new project, it currently has a black background so i go to the composition settings and click Lossless and then render with RGB + Alpha and set it as a PNG. It renders but it still has the background black.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks in advance

AE using 100% CPU with "easy tasks" and slowing down workflow

Hi,

I've recentely changed my GPU from a GTX 780 to a GTX 1070 Ti, switched from Win 7 to Win 10 and upgraded to the new After Effects CC 2019: I hoped that all of this would improve my workflow, but since this happened I find After Effects going slower, in particular my CPU is jumping all the way to 100% usage even with small tasks.

Last day I was working on a still frame that had both a very easy Trapcode Particular snow-like layer and a Camera-Lens Blur effect on the background: i was typing a text, something like "Merry Christmas" and as soon as i started to scale up the text my CPU would go 100%, which was pretty bizzare counting that it wasn't even a Full HD comp.

My CPU is a Intel Core i7 4770k 3,50 ghz quad core: it's almost 5 years old i know, but not that bad to not being able to scale a text .

My RAM  is a dual channel DDR3 16 GB 1600 mhz.

What should i do? I would like to improve both the ram and the cpu, but i don't have the money right now: moreover i wanted to improve my workflow by switching to a new gpu and new software, not slowing it down... Its' really annoying and most importantly feels like something is wrong.

Thanks!
