looping my comp

$
0
0

Hi,

I have a simple animation in my comp for 5 sec long. Then, I take this comp into another comp (15 sec long) to apply Time Remapping and expression (LoopOut(Type="Cycle", numkeyframes=0).

I moved one frame backward and then set the last keyframe to 0. Expand my comp to fit the duration of the timeline. This will loop my 5 sec to 15 sec duration of my new comp.

My question is if I need to delete the last keyframe that is suggested from some sites.

I tired to delete the last keyframe. Once I did that, the timeline at this frame is not showing what is supposed to show before.

Now I keep the last keyframe. Since it works, I think it's ok. Not sure if this the rigth way to do so.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

After effects freeze every once in a while

I have recently formatted my computer and set cs6 up. While using after effects, trying to move sthi change values or making ram previews the program freezes for 3-4 seconds and then do the job. Any ideas how to solve that?

My PC has i7 2600K, gtx570 and 16 gb ram so the problem is not about performance..

Audio slowed down

Ok, my audio files WERE playing back at the right speed/pitch, but for some reason, in every project, they are now playing back slower and lower in pitch. I have checked edit > preferences > audio hardware. It doesn't matter what I use for my default device - it changes nothing. I have it on the AE WDM Sound. Changing the buffer settings does nothing. In project settings, my audio is set to 44.1 khz, just like my wav files, which are 16 bit 44.1 khz. Changing that also does nothing. I'm at a loss. Thanks for any help.

Pixellated motion blur and DOF in Ae CS6 w/Ray Tracing on

Both motion blur and DOF are not rendering correctly in Ae CS6. Instead of rendering a nice soft blur, the blur area looks pixellated.  Classic 3D looks fine.  This happens both in RAM preview and in rendered files.  This image shows RT set to a quality of 3, but even at 20 the blur area looks noisy.  Resolution set to full, layer quality is at full also:

Should I just expect that the blur will never be fully 'blurry'?  Thanks in advance!

Green screen compositing, why does red specs appear on my finish composition

$

Hi, I am compositing some green screen scenes. When fininshed, I render them into Quicktime .mov's (using Avid DNXHD codec). When I play them back on my computer, they look fine. But I tested them on a fairly new 52" LCD television, and saw little red spots appear in certain places. Why would these red spots appear on certain televisions, and not on others, likewise, why would I not see them on my monitor?

Some info about the shots,

It is a green screen background shot, which had blue trackers, shot in 1280x720p.  The backgrounds are 8 bit compositions created in a program called blender. The  editing and compositing was done within After Effects CS6

Any help about the mystery of the red specks, maybe hotspots, would be appreciated.

Thanks

When opening a video clip in AE to add in and out points before adding it to a comp the timecode is off compaired to what it really is. Final Cut Pro, Premiere and Quicktime all show the correct timecode for the video clip but After Effects is off [occasionally].

Adding Sounds to my Intro

Hey guys, I'm new in this forum, and I want to ask you something to do for me. Im kinda skilled in After Effects, so I made my own intro, that I like. Its not perfect, the explosion at the end isn't pefrect, but I can live with it. But, there comes something that I don't know how to do, and thats the sound. I found some components (I think the main components) of the sound, but I've never messed around with sound. So I need you to help me with this problem.

There is my Intro:

You can download intro as .aep here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/149098029/Intro.aep

And as .Mov here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/149098029/Intro.mov

The are some sounds that I would like to add to my intro: (They are just example)

http://www.audiomicro.com/02242-cinematic-low-rumble-sound-effects-837 784 - Nice for atmosphere for the whole intro.

http://www.audiomicro.com/big-boom-sound-effects-781239 - When the text falls, it needs some sound to make.

Obviously, for helping me, I will add "Intro Audio Editor: Your Name" In the outro.

As well feel free to edit my Intro when you think you can tweak something out. Maybe mostly the explosion and the fade-out at the end.

Workflow and Compositional Question

$

I have footage from 22 GoPro cameras, mp4, which I have imported natively into AE (11.02, OS 10.8.3 Mac 2.66mhz Quad Tower 16g of RAM) into 1 composition.  I plan to achieve the effect desired and then output a production codec, 422 prores for inclusion in my Premier project timeline.  Is this a valid workflow?

Next the compositional question:

Most of the 22 cameras (in an array) recorded two or more files of the 16 mintes of run-time, (there are 6 separate takes in that time period).  I pre-composed those footage files (after aligning a slate and for the seamless play of each layer) to neaten up and make more compact my AE timeline.

The effect I'm trying to achieve is a Time-Slice/Bullet Time where I can "cut" from one camera to the next all along the array, thereby freezing the action, but having the "camera" move around the subject - and then have the last layer/camera keep playing.  At the precise frame I want to freeze I put the opacity of each layer to 0 successively at the desired "freeze point" however in my ram preview only the first footage layer plays.  Without the opacity transformation on each layer I can achieve a rough version of what I'm trying to do by Solo'ing each individual layer and I cannot figure out why making each layer 0 opacity successively isn't working.

Also once I completed all the Opacity transformations, the bottom layer should be visible 1 frame after the layer above it goes to O opacity, but it is in fact BLACK!  What the heck?

Do I need to slip each layer 1 frame forward in time so only 1 frame of each layer plays?  Again "turning on and off" each layer with Opacity?  I've found the answer to this question, at least for now.  Each successive clip gets trimmed to the desired frame, then slipped one frame in front of the layer above (save the top layer, which is trimmed to the frame).  This way the same frame is played over and over from each camera along the array.

Have I made a mistake by using the Pre-comps mixed with the 1-take footage?  In other words, my main comp now includes Pre-comps of the 2 files produced by most of the cameras, along with the original mp4 footage of those cameras which only recorded one file for the action.

And further; once I have the frames visible in the correct order would I Pre-compose again and apply a sfx like pixel motion to interpolate between the difference in angle/frame due to the difference in each camera's position?  Please suggest an alternative workflow or compositional layout!

I hope I've been clear, I'm here and willing to clarify if I've omitted any details.

I still would appreciate answers to the remaining issues if anyone has input for me.  The question now is: to time remap, or timewarp (which one?) before Pixel Motion - and is Pixel Motion best for frame interpolation to smooth it all out?

Thank you very much,
Jesse

Decent Quality Render Settings Small Size?

$

Can someone please help me with render settings in AE? I have a sequence in AE and it is about 80min... now I need to take it into Prem for more editing. I have tried dragging the clip in directly but for some reason the audio doesn't scrub and often it seams to crash.. like the app goes white.. if I leave it is actives after thinking.. but it is not really usable.

So I have been trying to render it.. but the resulting file is 100gb. I used lagarith codec and set it to RGB and it imported fine into prem for editing.. but I was wondering if anyone know any settings I could use to get the file way smaller.. I do not mind a little quality loss.. but I do want the file to work in prem fine so i can scrub and edit and stuff

I do video tutorial on application use.

My green audio bars went invisible and I can't seem to get them to reappear

$

Hello,

I use After Effects CS6 with a pretty new i5 desktop computer with Win8. My green audio bars (not sure of the technical name) just starting being invisible for the first time, so I can't edit/move them around anymore, as shown in this screen capture here:

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab341/AAL2423W/artsies/3-30-2013010 337PM_zps369a2cc1.jpg

(Sorry if it's small, Photobucket shrinks my image files if they go beyond a certain size, but Ctrl++ may help to zoom in for details.)

You can see how the green bars are missing even though you can still see the accompanying green Waveform underneath where the green bars should be.

Why did they disappear and what can I try to do to reclaim the green audio bars? I also can't seem to continue the project until I get past this issue, as even putting in new audio bars show up as invisible. (It's as if the project file has 'had enough' and wants me to start a new project file, but this would result in repeated work.)

(I feel like this started happening because the project got too big for one file, due to being 12min long and having 337 'layers' so far, but I don't want to suggest that as part of the answer, I'm just giving my own inexperienced feeling about the matter. Plus, I already tried dividing the project up into two 7min halves, since I only started having this problem at the 11.5min mark, and, unfortunately, the new second half still doesn't even show the invisible green bars, despite being only 7min long instead of 11.5min. I also notice performance issues replaying the entire thing with a RAM Preview after it got to be around 11min in total, with random audio skipping and the like, making me assume I'll keep projects to about a 7min maximum from now on to be safe and just compile them all afterwards. Another performance issue is that it clearly doesn't complete the RAM Preview distance that is set. Instead it stops where it wants to and commences replaying.)

Could not launch Adobe Stabilization Server Error

Hey Guys, I'll take you down the road I've been traveling on for the past few hours.

- Installed CS5.5, everything runs smoothly for the first hour, then I close After Effects,

- Open it back up again, and receive the "Quicktime in not Installed, some plugin's will not work" So I research that fully, realize it isn't actually a problem and stop thinking about it. I also get an Output Module Error on Startup.

- I gather some clips together 1920x1080 23.976, normal 60D footage that I was testing to see stabilized, since it worked very well on my 7D footage (But I doubt its the footage that is causing the problem.

- When I drag, or go into effects and add Warp Stabilization to the clip, I get this error:

"After Effects error: Could not launch Adobe Stabilization Server. (514) ( 25 :: 101 )"

- And nothing will happen, can't analyze the footage or the error will pop up again.

My Mac:

MacbookPro 17inch

2.2Ghz Intel i7

4GB memory

Running it off of my 1tb 7200rpm external hard drive.

My Firewall is off (turned it off to test one of the Quicktime error solutions, I've had it both on and off, and both problems stay the same)

So throw me any bits of info, I know this has been out for exactly a day, but this sucks. I'm just glad that I'm testing it now, and not later

Thanks guys,

Zac

dynamiclinkmanager.exe error - Solution! (Windows only)

Hi,

After days of headscratching this issue and scouring the web for answers I was coming up short.  Tried everything from making sure everything was enabled in the firewall, reinstalling and various other things people suggested to try but nothing was working.

So here was my issue, every time I fired up After Effects CS6 when the splash screen was loading Mediacore, it crashed with the infamous dynamicklinkmanager.exe error.   I am on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.  Weather this solution works in 32-bit I do not know.  But this has fixed the issue on my laptop and main PC.  The only difference between the two is that the laptop is Win7 Home Premium and my main PC is Windows 7 Ultimate.

I came across a post buried in the internet where someone had suggested to remove codecs that may be stopping AE from starting.  At this point I was willing to try anything.

First thing I needed was to have a list of my codecs so I could see where I was at.   I found a program to do that and it seems there were many.  It seemed like this was going to be a mammoth job.

So, then I thought, what if I could enable/disable codecs at will instead of removing them.  I Googled and found a program called InstalledCodec (v1.25) from Nirsoft.   Link here ->  http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/installed_codec.html

Grab this gem of a program now!

Unzip it to your desktop and run as Administrator.

I tried disabling all not DirectShow codecs first, then when that didn't work I disabled all the Directshow ones after re-enabling the previous.  Nothing.

Then, I stumbled upon it...  in the Options there is an 'x64 mode' which I selected.  And the program re-listed all my codecs.  This time some were highlighted in orange.   (Maybe for 32-bit users you will already get this from the outset as I reckong x64 mode may not work for you).

I found that all the highlighted codecs (5 of them in my case) had a reported 0 file length.

Well, I had 0 file length codecs before I enabled x64 bit mode and I had disabled those to no effect.  But I noticed that now in 64-bit mode some of the 0 length codecs had file lengths in 32-bit mode.   Hmmmm.

Anyway, I multi-selected all the highlighted codecs and disabled them.

Fired up AE and bingo !  I was in !     YES !!

OK breathe...  now which codec was it ?    Well this is where it starts to get funny.  Because my intention was to re-enable all the 5 disabled codecs I had and them disable them 1 by 1 until AE crashed again.   So I re-enabled all 5 and fired up AE.   AE fired up perfectly.   Whaa???

Fluke maybe ?   I quit InstalledCodec, ran AE a few more times and all was well.

Went to my main PC and did the same procedure.  AE now working on that computer too.    So.. don't ask me to explain it, or if AE will fall over on the next reboot or what, but all I know is I have 2 working AE CS6's on both my computers.

If this solution works for anyone else then I'm only too happy to have helped out because it was starting to frustrate me big-time.

Let me know if it works for you.

unable to loop composition

hi.

i'm trying to loop my composition (72 frames) containing a moving object (a walking chicken, refer to printscreen)

i followed tutorial here http://wikis.evergreen.edu/computing/index.php/Looping_a_Composition_- _After_Effects

In short, i applied Layer > Time > Enable Time Remapping to my newly created Comp 2. Two key frames were created. I moved to the last frame, and then 1 keyframe backwards and created a new keyframe. Then on the very last keyframe i set the time to 0 and then deleted the penultimate frame (which i had just created). And then added Property > LoopOut(Type="Cycle", numKeyframes = 0)  to the layer i want to loop.

however, after applying LoopOut expression, i am no longer able to playback - when i pres Play to preview, the chicken stands still (meanwhile time indicator is moving continuously, indicating that playback is in action).

Thinking that i deleted wrong keyframe, i undid all changes and repeated all steps again but this time i deleted the very last frame and left the penultimate frame (and setting time to 0 ). It did not have any effect - chicken does not move, time indicator is moving/looping in the timeline.

thank you in advance

I've just installed After Effects CS6 from the cloud. I run Photoshop, & Illustrator CS5.5 with no problems.

Here are the full errors it gives me on startup. I have never been able to successfully get After Effects to load.

"After Effects error: After Effects crashed previously attempting to initialize OpenGL. Consult the manufacturer of your graphics card for a compatiable OpenGL driver."

"After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <6632> <GPUManager> <2> Sniffer Result Code: 1"

I have an ATI Radeon 7850 card. Tried uninstalling the drivers completely and re-installing latest Catalyst drivers. Then tried uninstalling completely again and installing the beta 13.3 drivers. Still same crash error.

Running Windows 7 64 bit.

Element 3D is crashing After Effects?

Hello everybody!

I recently purchased Video Co-Pilot's plugin for Adobe After Effects, Element 3D, but much to my amiss, it does not work. The first time I tried to open the scene setup, it said, "Element 3D has encountered an unrecoverable error."

I closed After Effects, and opened it back in hopes of trying again. But this time, when I apply Element 3D to a solid, it tells me "After Effects has stopped working" and I am forced to close the program.

Nothing has changed yet, every time I try to add Element 3D to a solid it crashes After Effects. I updated my graphics driver, re-installed Element 3D, everything I can think of, but to no avail.

If anyone could offer some speculance as to what's happening, that would be amazing.

My system specs:

Acer Aspire 5349

2 GB RAM

250 GB HDD

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

DirectX 11

Intel HD Graphics

During a RAM preview of my after effects project, the audio will just stop for a few seconds, and I have no idea how to fix it, and can't find it anywhere else online. Can anyone help? Thanks

Gradient Mask Adjustment layer

In Photoshop it's a piece of cake to make an adjustment layer with a black/white gradient mask, but can this be done in After Effects? If so How?

Should I Put Disk/Media Cache Folder in Primary SSD with OS and Apps?

Hello, I have a SATA3 SSD with OS and Apps on them, and 2 SATA2 HDDs, one for footages/projects and the other for renders/archive.

I believe putting the disk/media cache in the SSD would boost performance because of the speed, but I heard it can shorten the lifespan of the disk, although I'm not sure by how much.

I guess I could purchase another SSD dedicated for disk cache, but I'd rather not if putting them on the same drive with OS and Apps won't be too much problem.
